Cougars are apex predators, known also as mountain lions and pumas, and are the second largest wild cat in the Americas. They are apart of the felidae (cat) family, and usually have coats that are an red-ish brown or gray color, with a white muzzle (including it’s whiskers).
These strong animals are powerful jumpers and usually strike deer. But if no deer are accessible, they also hunt small mammals (porcupines, raccoons, birds, foxes, mice) and grass. After they’re done eating, they bury the body of the animal they eat, and save it for later (leftovers). These animals are found in the west of the U.S. (in California and are native in Washington state), but may also be located in Canada. Cougars are normally in dark forests or rocky mountains, so they are not easily seen. The dens they make are in rocky ledges and thin bushes, and if you were to enter their territory, it is most likely they will attack you (they can be very protective about what they own). They are endangered in Florida and considered varmint in Texas!
